Raquel Guerra Aragonés

Raquel Guerra Aragonés is a Special Scientist for Research at the SURF Lab, working on the Active RoofTops South Europe (aRTes) project. Her role focuses on policy research and best practices for rooftop design in Southern Europe, contributing to urban resilience and climate adaptation.

Trained as an architect (UPM, Spain; ODTÜ, Turkey), she combines multidisciplinary research, consultancy, and activism across sustainability, circular construction, inclusivity, and information architecture. She has contributed to European research projects, patents, university programs, and international conferences on bioclimatic architecture, green roofs and facades, and LCA-based digital tools for decarbonisation at IT startups.

She actively supports non-profit initiatives related to climate justice and human rights. She is the founder of the non-profit ACAN Spain (Architects Climate Action Network) and DFARnet (Design For All Research Network), which advocate for climate action, neuraminorities and inclusive design for healthier built environments. She is also a national organising member for Cyprus and Spain of HouseEurope!, a European Citizens’ Initiative calling for legislation to prioritise the renovation and reuse of existing buildings over demolition for speculative purposes.

She believes in the power of empathy, collective action, and holistic research to accelerate decarbonisation and promote equitable urban futures.
