Nadia Charalambous is an Associate Professor at the Department of Architecture at the University of Cyprus and Director of the Society and Urban Form (SURF) research lab. Her academic background includes studies at the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London, where she earned a BSc in Architecture and Environmental Studies, an MSc in Advanced Architectural Studies, and a Diploma in Architecture. She subsequently completed her Ph.D. at the National Technical University of Athens.
Her research investigates the complex relationship between spatial configuration and social phenomena, approached through both methodological and theoretical lenses. This includes work on evidence-based urban design, the promotion of urban inclusion and accessibility to public spaces. She is particularly interested in how these themes can inform and enrich a transdisciplinary architectural pedagogy. Central to her research is a commitment to societal impact. By collaborating closely with society, stakeholders, government bodies, and policymakers, she aims to ensure that my work not only advances academic knowledge but also makes a meaningful contribution to the betterment of society.
She is the Coordinator of the Horizon Europe project “TWIN2EXPAND_Twinning Towards Research Excellence in Evidence-Based Planning and Urban Design” the Erasmus+ projects “PS-U-GO_ Participatory Skills for Sustainable Urban Governance”, “KAEBUP_Knowledge Alliance for Evidence-Based Urban Practices, and “EPUM_ Emerging Perspective on Urban Morphology: Researching and Learning through Multiple Practices” and a number of research projects funded by the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works and by local municipalities.
